Working with effects
Curves
Use curves to change values over time, such as fading particles out or increasing their speed at birth.
Curve format
This curve changes a value from 1 to 0. Use it for overLifetime.alpha to fade each particle out:
{
"points": [
{ "time": 0, "value": 1 },
{ "time": 1, "value": 0 }
]
}time: a position from 0 to 1. Put points in increasing order, with no repeated times.value: the value at that point.tangent: optional slope. It defaults to 0, creating a smooth transition that flattens at the point.
A curve needs at least one point. For a transition, start with points at 0 and 1. You can edit points and tangents visually in the lab.
Curve timing
- Emission and initial values: 0 is the start of the emitter’s cycle; 1 is the end. Initial curves set values for new particles.
- Over lifetime: 0 is a particle’s birth; 1 is when it disappears. Each particle follows the curve independently.
- Modifier strength: time follows the emitter clock divided by its configured
duration. With a duration of 2 seconds, time 1 means 2 seconds. Duration spread does not change this scale. If time exceeds 1, the curve continues along its final sampled slope.
Curves work for emission rate, shape dimensions, initial lifetime, speed, size, rotation, spin, stretch, color, and opacity; all over-lifetime settings; and modifier magnitude. Direction and spread settings use numbers only.
